Square and Apple Maps: keep your listing up to date
Square sellers in the UK can now connect Apple Business from Square Dashboard so their name, address, hours, phone number and logo sync to Apple Maps. Here is who can use it, what it does and how to set it up.
If you take payments with Square and have a shop, café, salon or other premises, you can now keep your Apple Maps listing up to date from your Square Dashboard. Square added an Apple Business connection for UK sellers on 24 September 2026, so your name, address, opening hours, phone number, website and logo sync to Apple instead of being updated by hand in two places.

It is free to connect and Apple Business itself is free to use, but there are conditions: you need a verified physical location that customers can visit, and Apple checks your brand, logo and each location before anything goes live. Here is what it does, who can use it and how to set it up without getting stuck.
What is Apple Business?
Apple Business is Apple's free platform for companies, launched on 14 April 2026. It brought together Apple's older business tools, including Apple Business Connect, which is where you claim and edit your place card on Apple Maps.
The place card is the panel people see when they search for you in Maps on an iPhone, iPad or Mac. It shows your name, opening hours, phone number, directions and buttons such as Call or Website. Apple says your brand and place card details can also show in Wallet, Safari and Spotlight search, and your logo on the Tap to Pay on iPhone payment screen.
Apple has also announced paid ads in Maps, but only for the United States and Canada so far. Nothing in this article involves paying Apple.
What does the Square connection actually do?
Once you connect, Square sends these details for each location you switch on:
- business name and address
- opening hours
- phone number and website
- business category
- your logo
When you change one of those in Square, the update flows to Apple automatically. Square says changes can take 24 to 48 hours to show in Maps.
You can also add action buttons to your place card. Directions, Call and Website appear as standard. You can add Order, Pickup, Delivery or Menu if you have an active Square online ordering profile, and Book or Schedule appointment if you use Square Appointments.
Some things stay in Apple's own portal: cover photos and promotional "showcases" are not managed from Square.
Who can use it?
According to Square's UK help centre, you need:
- Square payments activated and access to Square Dashboard
- a verified physical location that welcomes customers (online-only and mobile businesses are not eligible)
- account-owner access, or a team member with full access
- a Square Free, Plus or Premium subscription
- an Apple Account linked to your business email, not a personal one
Only one brand can be set up per Square Dashboard, so a business trading under two different names will need to think about which one to connect.
What this means for your business
For a café owner or hairdresser, the practical benefit is fewer wrong listings. Christmas and New Year opening hours are the classic problem: you change them on the shop door and on Instagram, and forget Maps. If your hours in Square are correct, this connection carries them through.
It will not fix everything. It covers Apple only, so your Google listing and any directory listings still need checking separately. And it depends on Apple approving your brand and locations, which takes time.
How to set it up, step by step
- Get your details right in Square first. In Square Dashboard, go to Settings, then My business, then Locations. Check the address, phone number and regular hours for every location. Whatever is here is what Apple will receive.
- Create or check your Apple Business account. Sign in to Apple Business with an Apple Account tied to your business email, agree Apple's terms and complete Apple's organisation verification. If you already used Apple Business Connect, you need to be an administrator of that organisation.
- Connect from Square. In Square Dashboard, go to Channels, find Apple Business and click Connect. Sign in, choose "Locations and Brand Profiles" and click Allow. Apple sends a confirmation email.
- Set up your brand. Enter your brand name as customers know it, in normal capitals (Apple may reject names in all lower case or with odd symbols), add your website or a social media page, and pick a main category. Square says Apple reviews each brand manually, usually within 5 working days.
- Add your logo once the brand is approved. It needs to be at least 1024 x 1024 pixels, and Apple approves logos separately.
- Switch on your locations and add action links. Choose which locations sync, then pick the one action button you most want customers to tap.
If you ever disconnect, your place card stays on Maps but Square stops updating it, so you would manage it in Apple Business directly.
A quick pre-Christmas listing check we suggest
Here is the order we suggest working through, ideally before December:
- Search for the business by name in Apple Maps and Google Maps on a phone. Note anything wrong.
- Compare each listing with the hours, phone number and address in Square Dashboard.
- Fix Square first, then connect Apple Business so Square becomes the one place you edit.
- Add December and January special opening hours in good time, then check Maps a couple of days later.
- Ring the number shown on the listing to make sure it reaches someone.
Frequently asked questions
Does it cost anything to connect Square to Apple Business?
Square's help article does not mention any fee for the connection, and Apple says Apple Business is free to use. Apple sells optional extras, and Maps ads are not available in the UK at the time of writing.
Can a mobile or online-only business use it?
No. Square's UK guidance says you need a verified physical location that welcomes customers. Mobile and online-only businesses are not eligible.
How long before my updated hours show on Apple Maps?
Once your brand and location are approved, Square says changes can take 24 to 48 hours to appear. Allow longer for the first setup, as Apple reviews brands by hand.
